Organic Visibility

Sometimes,
I am like a lightning bug.

Sometimes,
I hide during the day
and crawl on the ground
until the moon
climbs upwards
and I can be witnessed

Sometimes,
I am like a starry night.

Sometimes,
I survive the dark
when I can glitter it blue
and spill sideways,

become a stain someone calls solar system

Sometimes,
I am like morning dew.

Sometimes,
I cling to pastures
and attach to limbs
until the warmth
of her arms,
the sun,
reach my roots.

Sometimes,
I am like the lightning bug.

Sometimes,
I am hunted by nightjars
who refuse to call me
anything but “beetle”

Sometimes,
I need to be seen, anyways.

Inspiration: One of my favorite quotes from a movie + the living of the lightning bugs inspired this piece.

The Quote: “When I choose to see the good side of things, I'm not being naive. It is strategic and necessary. It's how I learned to survive through everything. I know you see yourself as a fighter. Well, I see myself as one too. This is how I fight - Waymond Wang, Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Lightning Bugs: Did you know lightning bugs are just beetles clinging to the ground until the sun sets? Then, when the moon is high, they climb up grass blades, crawl past tubular sheaths, and summit into the sky. They often bounce between tree limbs in search of mates. The average lifespan of an adult firefly is about 2 months.
